It seemed like a good idea to start a blog about attending university in my 50s. Truth be told, I’ve never been much of a writer—back in school, my English essays were decidedly below average. But thankfully, technology is here to save the day, promising to make this venture a bit smoother.
So, Why Blog?
Why take up blogging? Is there a point? Will anyone even read it?
Chances are slim, but I’m optimistic. Even if just one person stumbles upon my posts and finds something useful, that’s a win in my book. Life has thrown some pretty positive changes my way recently, and I’m eager to pass on what I’ve learned. If my experiences can help someone out there, then sharing them is worth it.
Taking Charge
I’ve come to realise the importance of taking full responsibility for my health—both physical and mental—as I age. With our health services overwhelmed, we can’t wait for quick fixes anymore. I firmly believe in returning to basics: eating what nature intended and steering clear of ultra-processed foods as much as possible.
Spring 2023
After years in a career that left me feeling demoralised, unhappy, and professionally unfulfilled, I finally received the break I desperately needed.
Most people hear ‘redundancy’ and think of loss and despair, but for me, it was the silver lining I had been hoping for. I had devoted a significant chunk of my life to a business that no longer brought me joy, and I was determined not to leave empty-handed. This moment of redundancy wasn’t just a setback; it was the catalyst for a change I had long contemplated but never acted upon.
Seizing this unexpected opportunity, I applied and was thrilled to be accepted into a degree program for Counselling and Psychotherapy. It felt like stepping onto a path that had been waiting for me all along.
