Today marked the beginning of our proper lectures. Monday morning kicked off with a deep dive into academic resources—where to find them and how to discern what counts as an ‘appropriate source.’ I found myself wondering, what’s wrong with Wikipedia? Suddenly, I was surrounded by terms like ” peer review” and ” citations”—words that glazed over my eyes. Now, I’m expected to understand and use them. The discussion about referencing with APA7 didn’t help; it seemed tedious and confusing.

By Monday afternoon, we shifted gears to examine the demands of the course alongside the importance of self-care, a topic I found much more approachable. Then came Tuesday, with its introduction to counselling skills and the concept of triads, which was slightly intimidating. The thought of having to share my issues with classmates was daunting.

With so much information to absorb, it’s sometimes overwhelming, but I’m beginning to see how much I might enjoy this journey through academia.
